Thanks everyone for sticking it out till the end of the semester. I had a really good time teaching this section again. I’m planning on doing some more screen casting on flash techniques soon, so maybe have a glance back here in a couple of months for an announcement.

I’ll be submitting the final grades soon, but if you showed up for the final, everyone there got an A. So good work! And thanks for coming!

Dont forget the resources on the right in the Final Ramblings link —>

According to the Final’s Schedule, our last class meets Wednesday December 19th. Tonight’s class (December 5th) we will wrap up the functionality for our MP3 player with next track and previous track functions. For the class that meets on December 12th we will go over a few display options for our MP3 player, which will finish our project for this second half of the semester. Your MP3 player project (along with any outstanding assignments from earlier this semester) is due the class meeting of December 19th. We’ll probably chat about a few things, go over the assignment, and you’ll be free to go enjoy the holiday’s.

SWF Demo ScreenCast

This is a short 20 minute video demonstrating how to do a basic setup of the SWF Object. You should go to the site and read the documentation, but here is a quick walk though and demonstration of how to use it. I don’t go through all the methods, but you should be able to set it up for yourself after viewing the video. I can answer questions in class.

Hey everyone, sorry for the late notice, but class is canceled this Wednesday. I’ll be posting a video for your Flash education enjoyment on the SWF object. How to use it, where to download it, etc… With some luck I’ll have this recorded Tuesday night, and converted and up on Wednesday. Keep your eyes open.

I’ll see you all on November 7th!

Hey, I finally got the video’s up from the previous 3 lectures. Take a look at the class 7, 8, and 9 pages for the links at the top.

Tonight I’ll be talking about a couple of things. One of which is the some of the announcements and demonstrations (from Aral Balkan’s site) from the MAX conference going on right now. The other thing will be a quick tutorial on how to implement a project with the SWF object which is currently version 1.5, and 2.0 is just around the corner. We’ll download the current kit and take a look at how it works. It looks like it will be fully integrated into Flash 10. I’ll also talk a little about how I follow some of these events, and how you can stay informed. I’ll be posting more links over on the right soon that you can subscribe to.

Also here is a little video (On my friend Willo’s site) talking about how that whole RSS thing works: http://www.willotoons.com/2007/07/rss-101.php. She also has a little tutorial on how to set up your RSS feeds for reading http://www.willotoons.com/2007/07/re-bookmark-my-rss-feed-please.php.

Also if you use firefox, there is this awesome toolbar you should be using as a developer, Developer toolbar.

Don’t forget, tonight is the night to catch up on all of your outstanding assignments, I need to see everything assigned to date, or you loose half the credit!

Tonights class is a lecture about array’s, there is no lab homework assigned. However we will be using these techniques in projects coming up so it will be to your benefit to practice and get a feel for these techniques.

Next week will be a lecture as well. I’ll be talking about Flash Player detection and penetration (number of users out there that have what version of the flash player), how updates work, and things to look out for (like that evil browser Internet Explorer).

One of the main reasons for there not being an assignment tonight or next week is that I would like everyone to catch up on their assignments. We’ve covered a fair amount of ground so far and we really need to use these tools moving forward. I also don’t want to be grading these beginning of the semester assignments at the end of the semester.

So you have tonights Lab time and next week’s Lab time to ask me any questions about any of the assignments so far, and to show me your work to check off for credit. If your not caught up by the end of next week, all labs from this part of the semester will be worth only half the credit.

I’ll be out of town, and with only rare (if any) internet access. So if you are e-mailing me any questions, I might not reply till Wednesday. Sorry for any delay.

I just found out that we will be using Flash CS3 (Flash 9) Pro in the classroom this semester, which is great news. Adobe (which bought Macromedia) has made a whole slew of improvements on the new release of Flash. From faster handling of Graphics on the stage to allowing you to import PhotoShop documents directly (also giving you controls to selectively turn on and off layers). And there is a whole lot more in store.
